ABOUT D&M ROYAL DAIRY GOATS

In 1995, we moved to our retirement home in Utopia, TX. Which is about 90 miles northwest of San Antonio. Our property was overgrown with high grass so we bought three Spanish cross weanlings to eat the pasture down.  That is when we found out goats are browsers-not grazers.  The kids quickly became pets and were into everything.  They even rode on the tractor with us.
We acquired five more goats when a neighbor who owed me $25.00—paid me with five baby goats-four bucks and one tiny doe.  This was our first experience in feeding baby goats.  We all made it.  Thanks to God and many prayers.
Next came our first milker, Ole Belle.  I rescued this Nubian cross nanny from the local sale barn.  Everything was fine for a couple of days, and then we noticed her lopped-sided udder was getting larger and larger.  I now realize she is going to need to be milked.  Luckily, I had purchased a book on dairy goats that was recommended by a goat supply house.  I learned to milk from the book.  OLE Belle got fat and sassy.
Our interest in dairy goats increased rapidly. Therefore, I started doing extensive research on nutrition and health care as well as breeding.  I acquired books and research material as well as advice from different universities with goat research programs.  I continue to do research to increase my knowledge of dairy goats.  I remember the saying - you can never learn enough and you will never know it all.
Our first registered dairy goats came from a couple that were selling their dairy goats in order to concentrate on raising their horses.  The bloodlines were excellent.   We had our start in dairy goats.
We have gradually replaced and upgraded our brood does planning for milk production as well as conformation. We have had all the different breeds of dairy goats.  Ending up with Alpines.
Our Alpine blood lines are from some of the older herds.  These does excel in milk production as well as doing well in the show ring.
We continue our stringent health program as we have from the very beginning.  All of our animals are tested for CAE and CL as well as TB and Brucellosis before they come into our herd.
Our goal is to continue to increase our knowledge in the care and breeding of the dairy goat while striving for excellence in both MILK and SHOW.
